What emotions do you experience when you are alone at home? In the beginning, it may seem like a time of joy and freedom, but over time, sadness and feelings of isolation build up. If this sounds familiar, we suggest you take this quiz to help you determine the type of loneliness you experience - whether it's alienating, diffuse, dissociated, or subjectively positive. It will give you insight on how to deal more effectively with this complex feeling.

Is loneliness a problem?

Loneliness is a deep inner feeling of being unwanted, alienated and isolated from the world around you. Everyone's understanding of loneliness is different, it is formed from personal perception, life circumstances and past experience. It is important to remember that being in society, it is not natural to feel lonely. We live among people who share the same house, city, country, culture and time.

We have developed a test based on the theories of S. Korchagina so that you can determine the nature and depth of your loneliness. In the author's opinion, a detailed study of this state is extremely important for the development of effective methods of psychological support for those who experience loneliness.

Alienating loneliness

This type of loneliness is characterized primarily by a sense of alienation from others and the world as a whole. Mutual reluctance to communicate and the desire to maintain distance can intensify this feeling. Prolonged alienation leads to emotional cooling, loss of ties with your loved ones and rejection of your own personality. The person becomes withdrawn, ceases to be interested in the outside world and avoids contacts, which only increases his or her isolation.

By maintaining a distance, a person involuntarily alienates others, limiting the possibility of psychological closeness. If this condition is aggravated, then his or her own personality seems alien, which encourages further alienation. Therefore, experts recommend trying to get out of your comfort zone and not lose touch with your loved ones.

Diffuse loneliness

Diffuse loneliness occurs when a person mindlessly copies the behavior of others, striving to be like someone who seems more successful. This leads to a loss of individuality and identity, making someone else's life their own. Harmonious development of personality implies balanced development of spiritual, physical and mental spheres based on personal resources and abilities.

Rejection of personal harmony and blind imitation of others leads to loss of self. Diffuse loneliness deprives the possibility of self-development and self-discovery, slowing down the growth of personality. It is important to remember one's uniqueness and strive for self-realization without losing oneself in attempts to imitate others.

Dissociated loneliness

Dissociated loneliness is characterized by alternating extremes: complete imitation is replaced by deep alienation. This condition is most often observed in people with changeable moods and a tendency to impulsive behavior. They distort the images of other people, attributing to them their own qualities, which leads to an internal division into "good" and "bad" self. Reeling from the negative traits in themselves, they criticize others while ignoring the need for self-knowledge and self-development.

This condition is accompanied by a sense of abandonment, even if physical closeness with others is maintained. Distortion of the perception of self and others leads to misinterpretation of relationships. In such cases it is important to pay attention to one's own positive qualities and develop them, remaining true to oneself and avoiding the influence of others.
