Acalculia (Acalculia) is a specific neurological impairment characterized by difficulties performing mathematical operations and understanding numerical information. This condition usually arises as a result of damage to specific areas of the brain responsible for mathematical processing.
People with acalculia often experience difficulties with basic mathematical tasks, including simple arithmetic operations such as addition and subtraction, as well as multiplication and division. Problems may also arise in everyday situations that require working with numbers, for example, when calculating money transactions or estimating time.
This disorder may present as a standalone problem or in combination with other cognitive impairments, including aphasia (speech impairment) or dyscalculia (difficulty learning mathematics). Acalculia is often observed after conditions such as stroke, head injuries, or in the context of neurological diseases, including Alzheimer's disease.
