Adipsia

Adipsia (adipsia) – is an unusual and rare condition in which a person loses the ability to feel thirst or has an extremely reduced need to drink. This leads to a risk of dehydration, as the body does not receive enough fluid to function normally.

In psychology and medicine, adipsia is often regarded as a sign of deeper health problems, such as hypothalamic dysfunction, neurological disorders, or mental disorders. Thirst is a key physiological mechanism that maintains water balance in the body, and its absence requires attention and medical intervention.

A clinical case of adipsia may involve a patient with hypothalamic dysfunction who does not feel thirst even at a critical level of dehydration.
