Auditory agnosia

Auditory agnosia (English: auditory agnosia) – is a disorder of auditory perception in which a person has difficulty recognizing and identifying sounds, speech, and auditory signals despite the absence of problems with acoustic perception (hearing) overall.

Patients may hear sounds but are unable to correctly identify them or understand their meanings. This disorder is often associated with damage to specific areas of the brain responsible for processing auditory information and linking it with language and semantic structures.
