Amnesia (англ. Amnesia) – is a condition characterized by a partial or complete loss of the ability to recall past events or retain new information. This phenomenon may arise due to a variety of circumstances, including head injuries, brain disorders, severe stress, or psychological trauma.
Two main types of amnesia are distinguished: retrograde and anterograde. Retrograde amnesia describes the loss of access to memories that were formed before a certain event, such as a blow to the head. Anterograde amnesia is associated with difficulties in forming new memories after the onset of that event.
The origin of amnesia may be related to physical changes in the brain caused by injuries, illnesses, exposure to toxic substances, or medications. Psychogenic amnesia may also arise as a reaction to extreme psychological stress or trauma.
