Aversion therapy – is a method of psychotherapy based on the use of stimuli that evoke a feeling of disgust in the client. This method is used in work with various addictions, such as drug addiction and alcoholism, as well as for modifying unwanted behavioral patterns, including sexual deviations.
The goal of aversion therapy is to create negative associations between unwanted behavior or a habit and unpleasant sensations such as nausea, pain, or discomfort. The patient is given the opportunity to associate their addiction or unwanted behavior with negative consequences, which, in turn, may help reduce the desire to continue this behavior.
