Catatonic syndrome is a psychopathological condition characterized by the presence of two main components: a state of general excitement and stupor. This syndrome is often associated with various psychiatric and neurological disorders, including schizophrenia and some types of bipolar disorder.
The state of general excitement in catatonic syndrome is manifested by sudden and involuntary motor and speech agitation in the patient. They may perform absurd and unmotivated actions and have incoherent speech.
On the other hand, stupor is the opposite state, in which the patient is in a state of immobility and essentially does not respond to the surrounding world. They may maintain the same posture for a long time and not respond to external stimuli.
