Conflict (English: conflict) is a process or state that arises when there is a contradiction in interests, values, beliefs, opinions, or needs between individuals or groups. Conflicts may be internal (intrapersonal) or external (interpersonal and intergroup). In psychology, conflict is studied as an important aspect of human behavior and interaction that can contribute both to personal growth and to stress or antagonism.
Internal conflict arises when contradictory feelings, thoughts, or desires struggle for dominance within one individual. Interpersonal conflict occurs between two or more people, often because of differences in perceptions, goals, or values.
Examples of conflicts include professional disputes at work, family disagreements, or an internal struggle with self-criticism and insecurity.
