Conscience

Conscience is an internal cognitive and emotional mechanism present in the human psyche that analyzes and evaluates the moral and ethical aspects of a person's actions and decisions. It serves as an internal «judge» or «observer», helping a person distinguish morally right from wrong actions on the basis of internalized values and sociocultural norms. This internal mechanism can produce a sense of satisfaction when one's behavior aligns with moral norms and discomfort or pangs of conscience when these norms are violated. Conscience is formed through upbringing, education, and interaction with the environment, and it remains an important component of human psychology, regulating moral behavior and decision-making.
