Sadomasochism

Sadomasochism (from the English “sado-masochism”) is a collective concept that combines sadism and masochism as two mutually complementary ways of sexual gratification. Sadomasochism may include both of these sexual deviations in one individual.

Sadomasochism includes acts in which one partner (the sadist) derives pleasure from inflicting physical or emotional suffering on another partner (the masochist), and conversely, the masochist derives pleasure from submission and the experience of pain or humiliation.

Sadomasochistic relationships may be based on fairly complex dynamics of power, dominance, and submission between partners. It is important to note that in sadomasochistic relationships all participants voluntarily agree to their roles and actions, and follow the principles of safety and consent.

Sadomasochism can range from light play with elements of dominance and submission to more intense and extreme forms, which may include practices requiring special caution and knowledge.
